The Muizenberg Festival is Taking Over!
The best community festival on the Southern Peninsula
The annual extravaganza that takes place in various spots around Muizenberg is back this year. Nature lovers, art fanatics and revellers looking for a fun and exciting event can attend this community-driven celebration from Sunday, 1 to Sunday, 15 October 2017.
The festival boasts theatre performances, art exhibitions, tasty local fare at various food stalls, workshops and seminars, activities for every age and a Sunday parade ending in a live music concert at the Muizenberg Park, to name just a few events. The festival aims to highlight the work and interests of local residents, businesses and organisations who are working together to create a more inclusive and sustainable neighbourhood. The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Celebrating Water’, so keep the water crisis in mind and remember to be water-wise throughout the festival… and always!
Most of the activities are free but some will be asking for donations, so bring a bit of extra cash and support this dynamic initiative.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2017 MUIZENBERG FESTIVAL
LIVE MUSIC CONCERT: The grand festival finale takes place on Sunday, 15 October 2017 in the form of a live music concert in the Muizenberg Park. Huge Cape Town bands like The Rudimentals, Crimson House, Trenton & Free Radical, Hezron Chetty, Mapumba and Orah & the Kites will all be taking to the stage, while Alive Dance Studio will be treating us to some cool moves. The concert starts at 1pm and entry is R60/p for adults and R40/p for children when bought online. The price of these tickets go up if you buy them at the gate.
WELLNESS DAY: Everyone needs a little rest and relaxation every now and again, and so on Saturday, 14 October 2017 Sangha Spot Yoga and Wellness Centre are hosting their contribution to the Muizenberg Festival. People are invited to enjoy yoga and dance classes, Kirtan (ancient spiritual music), and even a wellness market where you can shop a selection of health products.
DOG SHOW: The Muizenberg Dog Show on Saturday, 14 October 2017 will see pampered pooches strut their stuff for the title of Best Dog. What’s more, festival patrons can also look forward to demonstrations, interactive training sessions, donation drives and various competitions. This fang-tastic dog fest is free and will be hosted at the Muizenberg Pavilion Grounds.
FARMERS MARKET: The Palmer Road Courtyard will play host to a produce market where farmers from the area will sell their organic goods on Saturday, 14 October 2017. Guests will be treated to a smorgasbord of locally farmed or crafted products. It’s so important to support local producers, and this is your chance.
PARADE: Don't forget about one of the best parts of the festival; the parade. It has become an intergral part of the Muizenberg Festival and this year the parade is happening on Sunday, 15 October 2017. Join guests and community members alike as they walk through the village and celebrate the creativity in Muizenberg!
