You can always count on Mercury Live, an offbeat nightclub in the Cape Town CBD, to host a night of slamming rock ‘n’ roll. Prepare your earbuds because this one’s going to be bumping. The Southern Wild, a young, Cape Town based band, are launching their debut album, Lead Role in A Classic Horror, at Mercury Live on Saturday, 15 July 2017. It compiles the music they have been creating over the last two years and emerges with a matured sound, despite it being their first record released.
In two years Southern Wild have grown, and graced stages across the country including those at Oppikoppi. This annual music festival takes place in South Africa’s Limpopo Province and has been ranked the 4th best music festival in the world. Southern Wild describe their sound as multilayered, emotive rock ‘n’ roll, and are influenced by bands that include Cage the Elephant, Foals, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Queens of the Stone Age. The voice of Southern Wild’s singer, David van Vuuren, certainly has a soulful deepness reminiscent of that of Josh Homme, the lead vocalist of Queens of The Stone Age.
All in all, this is an exciting band to keep a lookout for as they grow in the South African music scene; you can start by getting to their album launch at Mercury Live! After all, it’s always satisfying to boast about having gone to a band’s smaller gigs in their early stages of fame. The night is presented to you by, event organisers, SA Music Scene, Deezer and Mother City Music. Other popular Cape Town musos, who have also graced festival stages, will be there for you to rock out to as well. These include Manny Walters and the BLACK CAT BONES.
Heels, formal shoes and suit are not needed at the unpretentious Mercury Live; just come as you are with a positive attitude and a readiness to get amped up by rocking, vivacious tunes!
