Indie-rock group breathes some fire into the Old Biscuit Mill

We-are-awesome brings you Part 2 of the Adidas All Originals Live Performances concert series featuring, for the first time in South Africa, ‘Little Dragon’ at The Old Biscuit Mill on Friday, 31 August 2012. This not-to-be-missed, hipster-centric indiegasm will explode in Woodstock with performances starting at 8pm.

If you haven’t heard of ‘Little Dragon’ yet, you will be forgiven, but judged. This Swedish, electronic, dance, pop sensation, from Gothenburg, have three albums under their belt and have performed alongside musical greats like Red Hot Chilli Peppers and in collaboration with Gorillaz, SBTRKT, DJ Shadow and Big Boi from Outkast.

These guys did it old-school, earning a rep and fan base almost Beatles-style, refreshingly contrary to the Idols-esque hit sensationalism of today.

The four-piece guitar-less band have been described as a blend of R&B, new wave, electronic and experimental pop, and band members Yukimi Nagano, Fredrik Wallin, Håkan Wirenstrand and Erik Bodin have been close friends since high school in the early 90s.

“Our way of spending time together was listening to, or playing, music” says Yukimi.  

Or, as Erik Myers of NPR Music says, “...Little Dragon makes pop music for folks who think they hate pop music...” and “... Yukimi Nagano(‘s) lithe vocals sync up with the song’s electric undercurrent, providing the spark in a dance number which might otherwise seem suited for a dilapidated disco hall.”

Notoriously brilliant for great live shows, their first tour in South Africa kicks off, where else, but in Woodstock, a suitably avant-garde space for the indie crowd.

A mix of contemporary modern as well as heavy 80s influences, such as Prince and Depeche Mode, Little Dragon have an eclectic fan base about which Yukimi says, “That’s how, if I wished for a crowd, I would want it.”

 ...We say, wait ‘til they get to Cape Town.
