A popular haunt for Cape Town’s locals, students and tourists alike, the Forex Bar in Observatory will be hosting a night of Pearl Jam hits played by live local bands on Saturday, 10 June 2017. The night has been arranged by Pearl Jam - Bring the World to South Africa, a campaign with one purpose: to persuade Pearl Jam to come and perform in South Africa. As part of this project, this tribute event aims to attract as many attendees as possible to attract wide attention from the band, so if you’re a Pearl Jam lover, come along with all your friends and belt out their lyrics along with some of Cape Town’s finest musicians.
Pearl Jam really needs no introduction; known for hits like 'Long Road' and Merkin Ball, a two-song single, they emerged during the '90s period of alt-rock and grunge and have continued to thrive ever since. The Larter Brothers and Aidan Martin will be delivering unplugged acoustic renditions of the American band’s much-loved songs. Aidan Martin’s bluesy rock will get you in the groove as he honours Pearl Jam with soulful moods. You can also expect to be treated to heavier realms with Stoker, who is set to serve up some good old rock ‘n’ roll.
The Forex Bar (otherwise known as The Foreign Exchange) in part, due to the international visitors it attracts, is the perfect pub for jamming to great live music with a wider selection than most of ice cold beers on tap, including an incredible craft range. The crowd there is ever-changing but always enthusiastic and interested in mingling so it’s a good place to head out to, even on your own, if you’re keen to meet new people and have a good time.
The pub is also on the second story of the building that houses restaurant-come-bar Trenchtown and Sticky Fingers BBQ Restaurant, meaning it has some interesting views from it’s balcony of offbeat Observatory. We highly recommend doing sundowners there some time - their cocktails are awesome too.
