Although some claim not to have a creative bone in their body, we’re actually all capable of drawing more than stick figures. However, squeezing in an evening art class is often tricky after a long day of work. So why not take the opportunity to escape into nature for a day at this botanical-themed art retreat?

On Saturday, 26 May you’re invited to join visual artist Elizabeth Nel for a day of learning and creating. This artistic retreat in Rawsonville will focus on contemporary botanical illustration and you will be guided every step of the way. Whether you’re a newbie to the art world and looking to get your feet wet or a professional wanting to explore something new, this retreat is beneficial to all levels. You’ll gain new skills, make friends and enjoy some time in the most beautiful classroom you could ever imagine.

THE SETTING
The Erzette Guest House is situated in the spectacular Breede River Valley in Rawsonville. Conveniently located just 60 minutes out of Cape Town, the renovated farmhouse provides the perfect setting for a relaxing yet stimulating art retreat for creatives of all levels. Surrounded by vast vineyards and enormous oak trees, this tranquil environment offers a true farm feeling with all the comforts of home. What’s more, overnight accommodation is available for those wanting to continue the retreat once the workshop ends. Skip the drive home and spend a night in this beautifully restored farmhouse.

WHAT TO EXPECT
This workshop is by no means one-dimensional. You’ll start off with an idyllic walk in the gardens to gather subject matter followed by a how-to demonstration. Before starting your work of art later in the day, there will be time allocated to practice a few techniques and plan your composition. All materials will be provided to you and you can expect to dabble in watercolour, ink and pencil and pen on paper.
