Rocking the Vintage Market

Grab yourself some bargains at this seasonal market!

I don’t know about you, but for me the change of the season spurs me on to sort out and refresh my wardrobe. Remember that heinous caftan you bought last year? Yes, it’s still ugly a year later. Where does that leave you this summer? With a need for a new wardrobe, for starters. Considering you can’t actually wear the caftan, you’re short a summer outfit but luckily that’s where Rocking the Vintage market comes in.

On Wednesday, 27 September 2017 The Vintage Experience is back at Trenchtown in Observatory with their first market of the season, all in preparation for one of SA’s most popular music festivals, Rocking the Daisies. This year the festival is going to be bigger and better than ever, with hotter musical acts (and more of them), more stages, more people and way more fun! Over the years Rocking the Daisies has grown to not just be one of the highlights on the annual music festival calendar, but also a platform for showing off the hottest fashion of the upcoming summer season. What we love is that festival-goers certainly don’t let the fact that they have to sleep in tents deter their fashion efforts or choice of outfit. While you’re grooving to Flume or Two Door Cinema Club at Daisies, you’ll see a sea of people wearing Coachella-style festival wear, among other fabulous fashion finds. We’re expecting fashionistas to strut some sensational stuff at the show this year.

The Rocking the Vintage Market has attracted exhibitors from across Cape Town, and they’ll have stalls jam-packed with the best-quality vintage clothes and accessories you’ll find anywhere in the Mother City. It won’t just be crochet tops and booty shorts, but stunning dresses, antique eyeglasses, your grandma’s old fur coat (maybe not quite… just because it’s summer) and pretty much everything you can think of!

Staying right on trend, the market organisers have arranged for some of the region's best festival-wear brands and vendors to attend. This market is your best opportunity for ensuring your summer wardrobe is packed with both fashionable statement pieces and trusty basics – and don’t forget to add a little sparkle to make things more interesting. Look forward to locally made swimwear, leather goods, hats, shoes, sunnies, skirts, shorts, dresses and maybe even a caftan or two.

While the market packs up at 8pm, there is no reason to rush off. Trenchtown is one of the best places to have a relaxed drink with friends, and start discussing all the festival arrangements, as well as which others, apart from Rocking the Daisies, you can’t afford to miss. What’s more, the very talented Daena Weeks will entertaining market shoppers with her beautiful voice on the night.

ENTRANCE TO THE 2017 ROCKING THE VINTAGE MARKET IN OBSERVATORY

The price of entrance to this treasure trove of vintage goodness is R20/p, which you can pay at the door on the day. While most vendors will have card machines, it is advised that you bring some cash along with you – after all, you don’t want to miss out of the must-haves of the season!

Speaking of festivals, if you’ve got the outfits ready, you might as well start planning your next adventure by checking out our annual festival overview and our guide to all of the trance party happenings this 2017/2018 season.
