Chester Missing Comedy Show at Paul Cluver

CANCELLED

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. PLEASE CONTACT THE ORGANISER FOR MORE INFORMATION.

There’s definitely something ironic in the fact that South Africa’s favourite political commentator is none other than a puppet – one Mr Chester Missing, in fact. Having recently been kidnapped by Air France, Mr Missing has successfully returned to our shores to perform his side-splitting act at Paul Cluver’s open-air amphitheatre on Saturday, 12 March 2016.

Iconic, pithy and always on point, Chester and his associate Conrad Koch will be making their Hope@PaulCluver debut, as part of the estate’s charity performance series. The provocative puppet has been saying things he shouldn’t for many years now, earning the controversial act critical acclaim both locally and overseas.

Chester’s handler, Conrad Koch, holds a Master’s degree in Social Anthropology, which, coupled with a sharp sense of humour, has served him well in navigating our tumultuous political landscape. Koch is known as a trailblazer and pioneer in the ventriloquism industry, having exposed a broad audience to the art, both in South Africa and abroad. Watch in awe as Chester talks away, with Koch’s mouth not moving a muscle!

Koch is also not known to shy away from a challenge and takes great pleasure in tackling pressing political issues in an intelligent, insightful and satirical manner. The London newspaper The Independent said the performance “Brings the roof down,” while the Sunday Times, London stated that the show is, “Taking ventriloquism beyond anything in the UK or America.” Whether Mr Missing is discussing the art of sock and Croc wearing, race relations, Oscar Pistorius, xenophobia or another hot topic, you can rest assured that this is one puppet that will pull your funny strings and have you in stitches.

While you’re enjoying the comedy show, make sure you take a moment to appreciate the pretty setting, which is open-air and surrounded by sweet-smelling eucalyptus trees. Bring a blanket, warm clothes, cushions and snacks, and be sure to purchase some tasty treats from the on-site vendors, complemented by some of the estate’s fine wines. Remember, no alcohol bought from home is permitted into the venue.
