“People say graffiti is ugly, irresponsible and childish... but that's only if it's done properly.” ― Banksy, Wall, and Piece
The celebration of street art in Cape Town is being taken to the next level at the second International Public Arts Festival in Salt River from Saturday, 10 to Monday, 19 February 2018. For 10 days, this live art festival will display the works of dynamic local and international artists. The 2018 edition of IPAF, brought to you by Baz-Art, comes with a strong message about being conscious about mishandling nature, hence the theme “Nature Doesn’t Need Us, We Need Nature”.
WHO IS BAZ-ART?
The non-profit organisation Baz-Art aims to engage, empower and uplift street artists and to transform their communities. Baz-Art partners will numerous organisations, including the neighbourhoods they work in, to establish a learning and creative environment for artists. They do art productions, events, brand activations and courses and tours. And their mission is simple: education, artistic eclosion, and social inclusion.
WHY WAS THE IPAF ESTABLISHED?
The festival was started to give artists a platform to express their creativity in both fine and street art. Event organiser, Alexandre Tilmans says: “Public festivals act as a creative vessel to enhance artists and make the communities stand strong together. This festival showcases the rich history, creativity, skills, diversity and style of South Africa’s public artists; as a result, we act as a platform for painting murals and billboards providing commissioned work to South African artists at a local and international level. The IPAF is just one initiative by Baz-Art to bring social change to communities one event at a time.”
This year IPAF is partnering with various eco-friendly brands like Leopold 7 who offer 100% natural and eco-friendly craft beer. The beer contains no chemicals, colourants, flavouring or preservatives.
