Die Burger Proefees and wine festival at The Tyger Valley Centre

Win(e)d down with some of South Africa’s top estates

Die Burger Proefees, the taste festival with a brand new flavour, is taking place on Friday, 27 July and Saturday, 28 July 2012 at the newly refurbished Arena Court in the Tyger Valley Centre. Approximately 40 wineries from an assortment of Cape Winelands regions will be showcasing at the fête with food and wind-down spots, to boot.

This year’s festival boasts a new focus, a self proclaimed ‘revival’. Not only does it take place in a brand new venue, but Die Burger Proefees also promises a dizzyingly high calibre of wine exhibitors on show and a number of food stands and chill lounges.

The entire Durbanville Wine Valley will take centre stage, and the estates from this wineland region will begrouped together in the middle island at the Proefees. The wineries will be showcasing two wines each, namely their much-anticipated 2012 Sauvignon Blancs as well as their choice of a red. Additionally, as an extra treat and as a tribute to the days when Durbanville was still a farmer’s market known as Pampoenkraal, chef Warren Swaffield of Cassia Restaurant at Nitida wine farm will whip up a delicious heritage dish: lamb sosaties with pumpkin ‘stampkoring’, cumin sauce and pickle.

Having thoroughly tasted the wines on offer, festival-goers can purchase their favourite vintages and varietals for delivery at a later date through Cybercellar. And when we say ‘thoroughly taste the wines’, we mean it, as drink and drive support will also be on offer throughout the two days.
