Book Your Front Row Seat to The Cape Town International Film Market and Festival

South Africa's film industry is on the rise and we have front row seats.

Season your popcorn film buffs and take your seats before the house lights din; the inaugural Cape Town International Film Market and Festival (CTIFM&F), formerly the Cape Winelands Film Festival, will hit our city soon. From Thursday, 12 October 2017 to Saturday, 21 October 2017, prepare to be captivated by the original documentaries and short films from creatives across the globe.

Over 641 stories from over 60 countries have been submitted and they are set to be screened at Nu Metro and Ster Kinekor Nouveau at the V&A Waterfront.

The CTIFM&F is also proud to include a strong LGBT focus this year. For the first time a section will be dedicated to queer stories, curated by a carefully picked jury. The quality and diversity of movies on the offer will appeal to a large number of people, making it the biggest event to hit the Cape Town film industry this year.

Festival Director, Leon van der Merwe is presenting heartfelt films at this year’s event, “Reginald Hudlin’s Marshall is about a young Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, as he battles through one of his career-defining cases. The extraordinary documentary, Notes on Blindness, has been described as a moving, intimate documentary, a triumph of sound and image, and a poetic examination of love, loss, memory and marriage.”

The festival promises to be a feast of film, with multiple film screenings running simultaneously at the V&A Waterfront. The opening night will have industry professionals, as well as the Face of the festival Pearl Thusi, will be in attendance alongside other South African celebrities. Guests can take part in these premieres and be part of the excitement and glamour that makes up a movie premiere.

Our pick of 5 feature films showing at the CTIFM&F challenging identity and social injustice.
