Not that the launch of South Africa’s first futuristic rock musical, Rockville 2069, needs any extra build-up; but nonetheless, on Saturday, 18 August 2012 at  the Kelvin Grove Camp Ground in Newlands some top-notch local talent will be performing various tracks from the rock and roll opera at the Rockville 2069 CD launch and concert in the name of sweaty-palmed anticipation.

Described as, ‘what happens when rock music encounters the future with a techno edge’, Johnny Ray and Bruno Pailo’s score and lyrics are truly groundbreaking, and audiences are invited to rock out to performances by powerhouse musicians Joseph Clark, Andries Botha, Michael Naranjo, Bronwyn Reddy, Madeleen Falck, Kyle Petersen, Tony Cox and Dave Ledbetter.

With no dates yet solidified for the musical's premiere, the Rockville CD launch and concert is the only opportunity to appreciate the genius of this "out of this world" production.

Exploring the philosophies that distinguished the rebellious 60s, 70s and those that currently shape our world today, this musical is not only entertaining but encourages the audience to not go silently into the night. 

For those unfamiliar with Rockville’s sci-fi storyline:  

The earth has been destroyed by man’s neglect and climate change, a small archipelago of islands, Rockville, survives by creating a protective force field protecting the residents - a group of peace-loving rockers, sound technicians and musicians – from the toxic fog and ice-age like atmosphere. To keep the force field from caving in, the musicians must play each day at dusk to regenerate the shield with resonating sound waves.

The result? A Woodstock-esque festival set 100 years in the future that nonetheless reminds audiences of the music of past.

Additionally, a graphic novel adaptation accompanies the futuristic musical.

TICKETS FOR THE ROCKVILLE 2069 CD LAUNCH AND CONCERT

Tickets are available through Webtickets.co.za. Standard tickets are R120p/p, and grants entry to the concert.  However, if you’re keen on saving a few bucks on the concert ticket as well as purchasing both the soundtrack CD and graphic novel and enjoying refreshments, then the premium ticket – R285p/p – is just what you need. It includes all of the aforementioned goodies.
