The annual Voet van Afrika (Foot of Africa) Marathon is often called the “toughest race with the warmest heart”, which is why seasoned runners can’t afford to miss the competition in the Overberg town of Bredasdorp on Saturday, 14 October 2017.
Back for the 39th time this year, the event promises a weekend jam-packed with athletic adventures. It starts off with the Toontjie (little toe) 4km Fun Run on Friday, 13 October, followed by the big weekend highlight, the Voet marathon, on Saturday morning. There’s also a half marathon and a 10km race on the Saturday, which promises to be as much fun – if a little less strenuous! – than the marathon.
The action continues on Sunday, 15 October with a MTB race and a trail run. Mountain bikers can choose between four different distances: 57km, 47km, 33km and 15km. Trail runners can opt to do the 25km, the 17km or the 8km.
Whether it’s for running, walking or riding, athletes and fitness enthusiasts from all over the province (and country) are gearing up for this event.
While the marathon is certainly not for the faint-hearted or the casual weekend runner, the beautiful scenery goes some way toward making the challenging route worth every gruelling step. The route takes you through some of the most scenic parts of our province, and you’re just a few kilometres from the most southern tip of Africa – Cape Agulhas – where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet, so that’s definitely worth checking out if you have energy left after the events!
There are great prizes to be won in each of the different race categories. Medals will be awarded to the first 1000 competitors to finish in all of the Voet routes and all participants in the MTB race and trail run will get medals.
ENTRY TO THE VOET VAN AFRIKA 2017
Event entries start at R30 and go up to R192, depending on the activity you choose.
