If you have an interest in wildlife conservation and genetics concerning the white rhinoceros, visit the Iziko South Africa Museum on Tuesday, 27 September 2016 for a thought-provoking talk by Professor Eric Harley.
As a result of decades of poaching and hunting, there are only three northern white rhinos left on the planet. Conservationists and animal-lovers alike have attempted to protect the remaining few in order to repopulate the species, but there has been some debate over the genetic differences between northern white rhinos and southern white rhinos, which are currently in abundance.
Professor Eric Harley has studied the genetics of black and white rhinos and will present his findings at a lecture titled ‘The White Rhinoceros: A Problem in Conservation’ at the Iziko South African Museum. Professor Harley has lectured at the University of Cape Town in the Department of Chemical Pathology and published studies of genetics in animals after 30 years of research.
ENTRY TO THE 2016 WHITE RHINOCEROS LECTURE AT IZIKO SOUTH AFRICAN MUSEUM
Entry to the lecture is free of charge to members of the Friends of Iziko club. Non-members are required to make a R30 donation in order to attend. The talk will start at 6pm.
