SuperRugby: Stormers vs Sunwolves
Back your boytjies against their mighty Japanese rivals
There is nothing quite like a game of rugga at Newlands; the atmosphere, the sporting talent and the beer makes this stadium a Mother City institution. On Saturday, 8 July 2017, our beloved Stormers will take on the mighty Sunwolves, who hail from Japan.
At the time of writing this article, the DHL Stormers were second on the overall SuperRugby log while the Sunwolves sat at 8th place, with both teams having played twelve games. The Sunwolves have developed a fearsome reputation in the SuperRugby world; having only joined the competition in 2016.
While they are sitting six positions below the Stormers, they should not be underestimated. Their last two games (against the Cheetahs and the Sharks) were both losses, but that just means they’re determined to steal a win from the SuperRugby favourites. The Sunwolves last played on May 27, so they’ve had a good long time to rest and plan their attack. The Sunwolves captain, Harumichi Tatekawa, is a large dude (95kg to be exact, plus he is really fast) and his team will prove a fearsome test for our boytjies.
The Stormers lost their last match. They suffered a loss against the Sharks; 22-10 on 27 May. They did beat the Blues the last time they were on home turf, so let’s hope they do it again! The Stormers team is quite a young one at the moment, so we hope these lads can pull a win out of the bag on home soil.
Whether they win or not, having a few beers at the stadium is a must. If they win, you’ll be drunk (and happy) enough to party on. If they lose, the blow will be dulled by all the drinking.
We don’t have word on which exact players will be fielded on the evening of Saturday, 8 July 2017, but you can bet that this clash will be well worth a watch. Get your tickets as soon as possible people! Have a look at some of the best tries from Round 7 of the 2017 SuperRugby season:
