Enjoy two days of berry good fun, live entertainment, trail runs, markets and more at this annual Garden Route fiesta

Now, we know that Capetonians are often reluctant to leave the Mother City, and with beaches, mountains, forests and a chic cosmopolitan metropolis all-in-one, we totally understand that (and are guilty of it ourselves). But this strawberry festival in George caught our eye, and made us think that perhaps a four and a half hour road trip could be worth it!

The Ola Strawberry Festival is once again set to paint the town red with a two-day fiesta at the Redberry Farm in George from Saturday, 30 September to Sunday, 1 October 2017.

The annual berry-tastic affair promises a load of family fun in the fresh farm air – all set against an awe-inspiring Outeniqua Mountains backdrop. Attendees to the festival can anticipate a load of sweet surprises, from live entertainment and gourmet grub to a country market, beer tent, popular sports, short shows, a mountain bike relay, and a kiddies’ play park.

And of course, it goes without saying that there will be countless activities centred on the juicy red fruit –  think strawberry eating competitions; informative talks and tours; beer, berry and wine pairings; and more. There’ll also be a strawberry hedge maze so you can get lost in the fabulous fruit!

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2017 STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL IN GEORGE

THE STRAWBERRY EMPORIUM: Feast on a selection of beauteous berry treats and eats, with plenty of accompanying beverages from the Berry Bar. There will be over 80 food and craft stalls at the festival, and the culinary delights on offer will be rivaled by none.

PICK-YOUR-OWN-PUNNETS: Frolic in the fields and pick your own pretty red gems to devour at home later.

KEEP YOUR LITTLE STRAWBERRIES HAPPY: The family-friendly fest includes a large outdoor kids’ park with target shooting, bubble ball, pony rides, pedal go-carts, a soft play area for toddlers, miniature train rides, a wooden playground and more. Your baby berries will never want to leave!

MORE SPORTY HAPPENINGS: The fest is perfect for sporty spirits as it includes a 9km trail run through the strawberry fields and a 5km family fun-run.

LIVE MUSIC: What’s a berry fest without a little jam? The upbeat styling of local Afrikaans musicians will keep toes tapping as they perform, accompanied by a variety of other lekker musical acts. .

TICKETS FOR THE 2017 STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL IN GEORGE

On both days, the entry is R50/p for adults, R25/p for kids aged between 3 and 12 years, and free for children under. The price of a general admission ticket and access to the art show will cost R150/p.
