South African National Road and Para-cycling Championships

Cycling SA is gearing up for the 2017 cycling championships

Gear up for a heart-racing, pulse chasing and chest-pumping cycling championship like no other. The 2017 South African National Road and Para-cycling Championships are taking place between Tuesday, 7 and Sunday, 12 February 2017, at the Florida Farm Stall in Wellington.

This blue ribbon event is aimed at each cycling discipline and is held annually. This sees us witness the crowning of the national champion in their chosen discipline for their respective age groups. The categories range from elite categories, to under-23 and junior, right through to the masters from 30 years to 70+, each category has a chance to earn the title of SA National Champion – so everyone gets a fair shot.

The SA National Road Championships will stage a Time Trial and a Road Race. The race circuit will comprise the 12.7-km ‘Lady Loch’ circuit for both road races and time trials. Entries are open and you can enter the road race and the time trial simultaneously – Cycling SA looks forward to welcoming all participants.

PARTICIPATION IN THE 2017 SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL ROAD AND PARA-CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS IN WELLINGTON

To participate in the championships you will need to have a Full Racing License issued by Cycling SA. You can register to buy one online via Cyclingsa.com. You must also enter online via the Cycling SA website.

RACING LICENSE FOR THE 2017 SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL ROAD AND PARA-CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS IN WELLINGTON

Full Racing License: A full license holder is entitled to participate in the national championship or series race. Participants who are partaking in the UCI categories (Junior, U23 and Elite) earn UCI points, which will help them in being seeded at future UCI category events, World Cups and Championships. The cost of a full racing license is R400p/p per year, and the applicant has to be a member of an affiliated club, as well as be a registered member of Cycling SA. All of this needs to be done simultaneously for a Full Racing License to be valid.

Membership: A membership of Cycling SA costs R200p/p per year. Cycling SA members are entitled to enter any event, irrespective of discipline, without having to purchase a day license. A member is allowed to participate in a national series event, but will not be eligible for national or provincial selection. A membership of Cycling SA is the most basic form of license and is an agreement of the rider to abide by the rules of the event in which they participate.

Day License: The day license is designed to allow the newcomers of the sport to participate within the rules and regulations of the sport. These participants, do not hold a full license or membership, so they’ll need to purchase a day license. By purchasing a day license the rider agrees to participate in the event and abide with the rules of the event and those of Cycling SA for that day. A day license costs R45p/p and is only valid for one day.
