Ideal for non-divers – especially since no prior diving experience is required – snorkeling with seals is an exciting and adventurous experience that the whole family can enjoy. Although notorious for being somewhat lazy and sluggish – not to mention, a little grumpy – on land, under the ocean’s surface seals are well-known for transforming into playful, agile acrobats known for twisting, turning and twirling with one another. What’s more, as most seal action typically takes place within the top five metres of the sea, snorkelers are able to watch, swim and interact with the spirited animals from above being 100% part of the energetic action.

Recognised as one of the most curious and inquisitive sea creatures around, snorkelers are in for a treat as seals are known to swim very close, intrigued by foreign species in their natural habitat and sometimes even stop to blow bubbles and bark, making for a more spectacular wildlife experience.

Into The Blue Scuba Dive Centre is a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors)-certified premier dive shop located in Sea Point that offers snorkelers and divers an array of exciting ocean excursions and diving courses. Choose from snorkelling with seals and swimming through kelp forest to diving with blue and mako sharks and exploring forgotten shipwrecks.

The seal snorkeling excursion usually costs R650 per person (excluding equipment rental), but with the CapeTownMagazine.com 10% discount, snorkelers can now swim with the playful aquatic creatures for R585 per person (available during the week only). Typically, the duration of the trip is three to five hours, including travel time. No scuba diving certificate is needed. All snorkelers must be able to swim to take part in this activity and the minimum age is 10-years. The Cape Town scuba diving specialists also offer snorkelers FREE Wi-fi in its shop and well as FREE hotel transport (if needed) to the dive site and back (subject to availability).

NOTE: Equipment rental (double 5mm wetsuit, mask, snorkel, boots, gloves and fins) will cost an additional R320 per person.
