New Winter Menu at Shimmy Beach Club in Cape Town

Relish in a delicious variety of gourmet foods from one of Cape Town’s premier ocean-facing restaurants until the end of June

Would you ever consider a beach-front restaurant to be warm and welcoming when the rainy season kicks in? Shimmy has a surprise for you then as its new menu is for those who doubt that a summer restaurant can still hold your attention come winter time. The new menu has been dreamed up by Executive Chef Adrian Cook, and is a food lover’s dream, ideal for those wanting a hearty meal with a twist of the extraordinary.

The winter menu is filled with tasty treats that are presented with a touch of artisanal class. The  delicious nibbles almost look too good to eat, as in the case of the starters such as the chess board calamari with pickled garden vegetables and saffron beurre blanc for R110. The succulent squid is neatly diced into cubes, coloured with squid ink and arranged in a classic chess board configuration. The result: a striking connection between meal time and fun time. Other delectable treats include grilled tiger prawns, chicken liver and tomato fondue, fresh black west coast mussels with sweet potato crisps and the stunning Gruyère and leek tart with pomegranate reduction. Even better, you’ll be snacking on these treats as ships sail by in the harbour for as you know, Shimmy Beach Club offers its own delectable slice of paradise.

The gorgeous establishment’s main courses are presented with as much care as its delicate starters. An exceptional option would be the lamb shank pot with candied butternut: a rich, melt–in-your-mouth experience with a tangy, moreish aftertaste. Other equally appetising options include herb-encrusted linefish with a warm artichoke salad, smoked salmon with curacao ravioli and pea shoots, rib eye steak with celeriac puree and spicy potato wedges, and the veritable king of pastas, the oxtail tortellini – balanced with pumpkin puree and sage beurre noisette.

Those who follow the Banting lifestyle can instead select from as many of nine pizza or sushi options, as Shimmy offers cauliflower as the base for both! Dip into pizzas such as honey -glazed beetroot with pumpkin, feta and avocado. Or, a mouth-watering parma ham concoction with artichokes, garlic and rosa baby tomatoes.

Fittingly, the dessert options are just as spectacular. Pistachio and honey-coated panna cotta, candied fruit with mascarpone cannoli, cinnamon-baked winter fruit crumble, ginger and orange steamed pudding and dark chocolate fondant are just a sampling of what’s on offer.

Now that you know what Shimmy offers you with its snazzy new winter menu, aren’t you simply dying to tuck into it? With the cosy atmosphere, incredible ocean views and beautiful settings, Shimmy’s ambiance is perfectly tuned to match the delicious, expertly presented food.
