Get a little cookery je ne sais quoi from Chef Pieter de Jager

The lovely thing about Franschhoek, along with the scenery, is the abundance of amazing wine. Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards is one of the most famous wineries in the area and, starting this season, they are offering a new line-up of creative cookery courses. What does this have to do with wine? Well, you’ll be cooking, drinking and pairing your food with the award-winning wines that Leopard’s Leap produces.

Taking you on the taste-orientated journey is Leopard’s Leap in-house chef Pieter de Jager. With his exceptional range of culinary skills, Chef de Jager is the perfect tour guide and he will be with you every step of the way.

COOKERY CLASSES ON OFFER AT LEOPARD’S LEAP IN FRANSCHHOEK THIS SUMMER SEASON

November – Canapés and Cocktails
Thursday, 17 November 2016 – Morning class (10am) with lunch
Friday, 18 November 2016 – Evening class (6pm) with dinner

Chef de Jager will teach you how to create the perfect start to an elegant meal, wow your friends with dainty morsels of deliciousness, or just throw the most chic cocktail party ever. Along with preparing some hors d’oeuvres, you will also be instructed on how to create some sensational wine cocktails to pair with those little pops of flavour.

December – Christmas: Less Stress to Impress
Thursday, 1 December 2016 – Morning class (10am) with lunch
Friday, 2 December 2016 – Evening class (6pm) with dinner

Christmas should be a time of joy; instead the reality for those tasked with preparing the most critiqued meal of the year is somewhat different. In short, it’s a bit of a nightmare. I think we can all agree that it’s better to be drinking. Chef de Jager will teach you how to prepare the most delicious and the lightest prep-time version of the Christmas meal – turkey and all!

January – Your Daily Bread
Thursday, 12 January 2017 – Morning class (10am) with lunch
Friday, 13 January 2017 – Evening class (6pm) with dinner

Bread is a tricky one. You only need to watch the Great British Bake Off for about five minutes on ‘bread day’ to know that it’s no joke. While Paul Hollywood has hours to perfect his dough, the rest of us don’t. Chef de Jager is a bread lover by nature and knows how to get the best rise, with the least hassle. WARNING – Don’t bring your Banting friends, they probably won’t enjoy it. Shame. 

February – Free For All: Tastes and Traditions of North America
Thursday, 9 February 2017– Morning class (10am) with lunch
Friday, 10 February 2017 – Evening class (6pm) with dinner           

Let Chef de Jager take you on a flavour-filled road-trip across the most culinary diverse country in the world, from health-conscious Los Angeles to chic and fancy New York City, hitting soul-food, Mexican influences, cheese steaks and everything in between!

Along with the cookery course itself, you will be able to take home the recipes (so you can delight and impress your loved ones at home) and sample your dish at the meal that’s served straight after class. Leopard’s Leap Cellarmaster Eugene van Zyl will be in attendance to show you the best wines to pair with your delicious creations.

Classes can accommodate twenty-two students at one time, with a separate cooking space and utensils for each. The class and meal afterwards should last about four hours in total, but don’t worry, you’ll be well and truly fed and watered!
