Fast Forward to a New You Charity Brunch

Join Tannie Poppie, Gerald Clark and more as they celebrate springtime with an event focused on renewal and rejuvenation

As spring quickly approaches and we all start dreaming of sweet summer sunshine and fields coated in flowers, it’s also a season to reflect and focus on new beginnings. The Fast Forward to a New You charity brunch is all about this theme of renewal, while also giving back to children suffering from Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). The brunch takes place at Skilpadvlei in Stellenbosch on Saturday, 5 September 2015, and proceeds go towards the FASt Forward Fund, which provides equine therapy for youngsters with FAS.

Hosted by fashion retailer Jade & Velvet, with the indomitable Tannie Poppie (Helene Truter) as emcee, the morning-afternoon affair promises to be as educational as it is entertaining with a range of knowledgeable speakers addressing attendees on issues pertaining to health, beauty and wellbeing. Speakers include Dr Nardus Le Grange from Aesthetics and Riaan Heinse from Heinz Hair and Beauty Salon.

Popular musician Gerald Clark will be providing the tunes for the event. Clark wanted to give back to the community, and found the FASt Forward foundation to be the perfect means of doing so, “I observed the amazing results of the interaction between horses and the FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) children. The one little girl, Abigail, stood out for me in particular. Abigail was born prematurely and was so heavily affected by FAS that the doctor predicted she would never be able to walk. I was there during a session when she was put on a horse and within a few minutes I could see her orientating herself and getting interested in her surroundings. The other day I saw her running around, dancing and laughing; she is now three years old and only four months behind the developmental phases of a normal child.”

FASt Forward has found equine therapy to have extremely beneficial effects for young people with special needs. Horse riding has been proven to improve posture, balance, muscle tone and joint flexibility, while also bettering childrens’ concentration, reasoning and cognitive functioning. FASt Forward is committed to making this kind of therapy accessible to FAS-sufferers and their families, having found horses to foster emotional, mental and physical improvement in kids with emotional and behavioural issues.
