Ephemeral Pleasures Exhibition at Moór Gallery

Discover the simple things that make people happy at this gorgeous exhibition

This extraordinary exhibition takes a look at fleeting, simplistic moments of joy that keep humans satisfied. The Moór Gallery invites you to view the Ephemeral Pleasures exhibition from Saturday, 27 August to Sunday, 18 September 2016 and discover inimitable pieces of art that illustrate the various things that bring pleasure to people.

The Moór Gallery is a family-owned enterprise run by Katherine McWilliam Smith, daughter of Peter Moór. Her father and grandfather Henrik Moór were both painters who were passionate about art. Henrik studied art at the Slade School in London and the Fine Arts Academy in Munich before settling in Germany with his family. After WWII, Peter immigrated to South Africa where he made a business out of painting portraits in Johannesburg, then moved to Franschhoek where he opened up The Moór Gallery. The wine valley is a stunning setting for this exquisite gallery that features work by artists from all over the world with a focus on artists from Franschhoek, showcasing art in various mediums for all to enjoy.

Ephemeral Pleasures takes two concepts – impermanence and satisfaction – and brings them together in a spectacular display of artworks presented in various media. The exhibition will feature over 50 South African artists who will explore different forms of ephemeral pleasures from basic human drives such as hunger, sex and hygiene to the enjoyment of art, music, literature and other types of enlightening pursuits.
