The Barnyard Theatre puts forth yet another musical extravaganza to pay tribute to music industry royalty: the king of pop Michael Jackson, Pink, Tina Turner, Queen’s Freddie Mercury and the queen himself, Elton John.

From Wednesday, 28 August to Sunday, 13 October 2013 at the Willowbridge venue in Durbanville, We are the Champions (it pays homage to Queen’s popular track of the same name) delivers pitch perfect performances of some of the most significant hits of the past 50 years.

Designed to get your booty bopping in your seat, this musical theatre production celebrates five decades of tunes cemented in the minds of modern pop music lovers. The 10-person cast emulates the unforgettable names in the business and belts out chart-topping tracks with passion, soul and flair!

‘Raise Your Glass’ to the girl who says and bares it all: Pink’s tunes are as iconic as her (formerly) pink hair, and her anthemic punk rock songs, like ‘Fuckin’ Perfect’, ‘So What’, ‘Just Like a Pill’ and more, will have you air-punching, singing along and chanting “you go girl” under your breath.

His royal highness, queen of theme songs and time-honoured ballads, Sir Elton John, is next on the bill. The vibrant ensemble tones it down just a notch to execute the sunglass-wearing crooner’s more tearful tracks, like ‘Nikita’ and ‘Candle in the Wind’, before stepping up the tempo for ‘I’m still Standing’, ‘Sad Songs (Say So Much)’ and ‘Crocodile Rock’ to name just a few.

After he’s riled up the audience, it’s time for the best legs in the business to take to the stage. That’s right, Tina Turner blazes up the show with her signature energy. Get ready to bounce in your seats to well-known tracks like ‘(Simply) The Best’, ‘Private Dancer’, ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It’ and others.

But that’s not all, the master of flamboyance, Freddie Mercury, will be portrayed in all his finest glitz, glamour and greatness. Rock out to some of this legend’s most-loved hits: ‘Somebody to Love’, ‘Bicycle Race’, ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ and ‘We Will Rock You’ tear down the house in true Freddie fashion!

The show’s not over until the king has sung! Last, but certainly not least, the stage comes alive with the sounds of Michael Jackson. You’d be forgiven for thinking that the late pop star is back from the dead; the Barnyard singer ( he bears an uncanny resemblance to MJ) undertakes the heavy task of doing justice to hits like ‘Billie Jean’, ‘Beat It’, ‘Bad’ as well as ‘Man in the Mirror’ to cap off a world-class performance!

Keep in mind, this is just a taste of what’s to happen on stage. Music lovers can look forward to a show brimming with charisma and skill.

Tickets are available via Barnyardtheatres.co.za and cost R135p/p for shows from Wednesdays to Saturdays (start time is 8pm, doors open at 6:30pm). On Tuesdays (start time is 8pm, doors open at 6:30pm) and Sundays (start time is 2pm, doors open at 12:30pm), audiences enjoy a special ticket price: pay R180 for one ticket and get another one free.
