Autumn Symphony Season

A classical way to spend an autumn evening in the city

Symphony season is approaching, and what better way to spend a crisp autumn evening than listening to the beautiful musical creations of years gone by? This year, symphony season features four classical concerts, each hosted at Cape Town City Hall, every Thursday evening from Thursday, 28 April 2016 to Thursday, 19 May 2016.

Four very gifted musicians will take to the stage this season, including cellist Alexander Ramm and pianist Melvyn Tan, to delight and enchant lovers of classical music at one of Cape Town’s most charming settings.

CONCERT LINE-UP FOR THE 2016 AUTUMN SYMPHONY SEASON AT CAPE TOWN CITY HALL

Symphony Concert No.1
On Thursday, 28 April 2016, the talented Cellist Alexander Ramm will take the stage to dazzle you with music. Accompanying Ramm is the widely loved Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, under Conrad van Alphen. The music on the sheet includes Tchaikovsky Variations, Balakirev’s Symphony Poem ‘Tamara’, and Vaughn Williams Symphony No. 2 in G.

Symphony Concert No.2
Violinist Nikita Boriso-Glebsky, along with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform Vieuxtemps Violin Concerto, Mozart’s Symphony No.38 in D, and Dvorak Symphony No.7 in D minor. This performance will also be at Cape Town City Hall, on Thursday, 5 May 2016, starting at 8pm.

Symphony Concert No.3
This concert is the first of two, showcasing the talents of two very special pianists. On Thursday, 12 May 2016, Melvyn Tan will perform Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No.1 in G minor, Puccini Capriccio Sinfonico and Brahms Symphony No.2. As with the other concerts, the main act (Mr. Tan) will be accompanied by the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Arjan Tien.

Symphony Concert No.4
Drawing the concert series to an end on Thursday, 19 May 2016, is Bryan Wallick on piano performed with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra. They will be performing Prokofiev Piano Concerto No.2 in G minor, Mendelssohn Symphony No.3 in A minor and Britten Passacaglia from Peter Grimes.
