From now until 30 July 2012 you can win an all expenses paid day trip from Cape Town to Cape Point for you and seven of your closest friends. The prize package, worth a whopping R10,700, covers the cost of everything from transportation to meal time; and whether you’ve never hung out over the precipice of Africa’s most southwestern space, or whether you’ve visited this point where African currents collide more times than you have fingers and toes, the winnings are guaranteed to make for an unforgettable day for you and a gaggle of your best guys and gals.

Cape Point Package Inclusions

  • Lunch at the newly renovated Two Oceans Cape Point Restaurant for 8 people
  • Return trip to/from Cape Point from/to Cape Town via the Green Cab, a carbon-neutral transport service

What else is there to do at Cape Point?

Contrary to popular belief, Cape Point is worlds more than just the thin finger of lighthouse-topped land that marks the most southwestern tip of Africa. Though mounting the peak of this rugged escarpment is certainly an activity that both locals and those from farther afield likely have on their bucket list, the southernmost region of the Table Mountain National Park also claims an assortment of hiking trails, picnic spots and comfortable accommodation that can turn an extraordinary day trip into a phenomenal weekend.

Oliphant’s Shipwreck Trail   in the Cape Point Nature Reserve

The Olifantsbos Shipwreck Trail starts at Olifantsbos beach in the Cape Point Nature Reserve and winds its way alongside the partially submerged Nolloth shipwreck and across expansive stretches of rocky beach populated with indigenous flora, fauna and animal life. There are three routes that start and end at Olifantsbos which vary in length, so you can choose between them depending on how much time you have and how energetic you’re feeling.

  • Thomas T. Tucker shipwreck trail (easy)
  • Shipwreck circuit (easy)
  • Sirkelsvlei circuit (moderate)

Swim and picnic at Cape Point Nature Reserve

As home to 7750 hectares of reserve, Cape Point is a nature enthusiast’s paradise, and between the towering sea cliffs and low-slung beaches, picnic spots abound. Pack a few of your favourite goodies, pick up a visitor’s guide and set out for a day of relaxing fun in the sun. Two of the best designated spots are on the banks of the Bordjiesrif and Buffels Bay tidal pools, sites where you can also swim.

Sleep in the Eland and Duiker Family Cottages

After a full day inhaling some of the freshest sea air this side of the Equator, forego the windy drive back to Cape Town and rather overnight in one of the Cape of Good Hope reserve’s comfortable accommodation options.  The Eland and Duiker self-catering cottages sleep six people each, and boast boma and braai areas, Jetmaster fireplaces and fully equipped kitchens.
