The Big Time project at the Artscape

Jazzy beats and youth empowerment take centre stage

The Big Time project, a cross-cultural music exchange between South Africa and France at the Artscape Opera House, is showcasing jazz legends and young talented jazz musicians this this Youth Day, Saturday, 16 June 2012.

Internationally acclaimed Paris-based quartet, The Elephants, have teamed up with a hearty line-up of South African musicians to entertain audiences with a fusion of French ballroom, Latin and Cape jazz sounds, and to put on a show you won’t forget. Performances by Marcus Wyatt, Gareth Walwyn and the young Cape jazz artists from the Oceanview Youth Jazz Band, Ceres Crusaders, Stellenzicht Youth Band, Line Up and African Sky from Saldanha Bay and Omega Brass Band from Mitchell’s Plains will feature.

Additionally, legends like guitarist Errol Dyers, pianistGeorge Werner, bassist Peter Ndala and drummer Carlo Fabe will accompany this incredible ensemble.

This international collaboration focuses on empowering the youth across a number of different disciplines: arts and culture, sport, trade and novel approaches in the fields of education, sciences and business.

Get there early to check out the Careers for Youth with Disability Expo, held in the foyer prior to the show. Tickets are R70p/p and the show starts at 3pm.
