Fans of brilliant British humour and the hilarious Monty Python series will be delighted to know that the legendary John Cleese is back in South Africa in June 2013, presenting another round of highly entertaining shows in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg and Durban.
Having enjoyed great success during his 2011 SA tour, the famous funnyman returns to put on a laugh-a-minute performance (presented by Big Concerts) at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on Tuesday, 18 and Wednesday, 19 June 2013.
The show will comprise of two distinct halves and is set to be one part biographical, one part conversational and all parts hysterical. The first half of the evening will see 567 CapeTalk radio host John Maytham chat to Cleese about his early life and career, up to and including his Monty Python moments, which launched the now 73-year-old Brit into super stardom and set the benchmark for future comedy acts.
Cleese will then spend the rest of the night discussing the witty sitcom ‘Fawlty Towers’, which he starred in and co-wrote with his first wife Connie Booth, and his role in the classic heist film ‘A Fish Called Wanda’, which also featured Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Kline. Not to mention, there will also be talk about his comical and controversial antics off stage, like his love of lemurs and black humour. Members of the audience will have a chance to ask the renowned actor some questions in a once-off personal encounter with a legend.
The well-loved entertainer started his career as a sketch writer for BBC Radio’s ‘The Dick Emery Show’ and also wrote for ‘The Frost Report’ before becoming a household name. After the successes of Monty Python and ‘Fawlty Towers’, he went on to write and star in ‘A Fish Called Wanda’ and later secured roles in the James Bond films, ‘The World Is Not Enough’ and ‘Die Another Day’, as well as in ‘Shrek’, ‘Harry Potter’, and, most recently, South Africa’s very own ‘Spud’.
So, don’t miss this second chance to catch the first-class comedian, writer and all-round funnyman as he promises audiences an unforgettably entertaining evening full of non-stop laughter.
