André Rieu and the Soweto Gospel Choir Cape Town concert

Enjoy the ultimate collaboration between two award-winning classical greats at the Grand Arena GrandWest

One of the world’s most well known and esteemed classical artists, André Rieu, is joining together with a South African national treasure, the Soweto Gospel Choir, for an evening that promises nothing short of classical bliss. The duo will play live in concert at the Grand Arena, GrandWest on Thursday, 23 and on Friday, 24 August 2012 at 8pm.

André Rieu, a Dutch composer, conductor and violinist more informally known as the King of Waltz, is one of the most prolific classical artists in the world, and this tour sees him returning to South Africa for a third consecutive year. Rieu is still topping global music charts, overtaking even the likes of the more commercial Justin Bieber, Sting and Coldplay, and he remains the top DVD selling artist in South Africa (a title he’s held for five years running)Previous South African performances have seen the classical legend and his 60-piece, waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra swoon over 90,000 fans, and it comes as no surprise that his organisers were  forced to add an extra performance date in Cape Town (Friday, 24 August 2012)  to accommodate fans. Highlights from past concerts include Rieu enchanting audiences by playing his world-famous Stradivarius violin – a mesmerising musical experience during which fans literally waltzed in the aisles.

The Soweto Gospel Choir puts quite the feather in this show’s hat, as they’ve already earned themselves an Emmy, two Grammys, three “associated” Grammys, three SAMAS and one Oscar nomination.
